In 1909, the Ceylon Tamils who had
grown in number to about 300 families, formed the Singapore
Ceylon Tamils’ Association (SCTA). In 1913, a Building Committee
was formed to renovate the premises for the ever growing number
of devotees.
In 1923, the SCTA became the official keeper and manager of this
autonomous Temple. From that year onwards, the Temple Committee
was elected from among the SCTA members. SCTA is the umbrella
organization of a World Class Temple, which is a National
Heritage Board historical site. SCTA is an apex organization
with a rich and vibrant past, extending over one hundred years.
Membership figures of this privileged organisation now stands at
more than 1400.

The origins of Sri Ruthra
Kaliamman Temple go back to the year 1913 when it was setup as a
small shrine, housed in a wooden building. Construction work on
its current location started on 27th October, 1980 and the
consecration of the new temple was held on 11th September 1983.

The United Indian Muslim Association (UIMA) is a registered
volunteer welfare service organization. UIMA is an associate
member of National Council of Social Service (NCSS). It is also
a member of Mendaki. Since its inception in 1963, UIMA is
dedicated to helping communities, and promoting goodwill,
understanding and cooperation amongst the various communities in
Singapore.
Of the various initiatives organized by UIMA, one of the
well-known programmes is the bursary awards. These awards are
given to needy students, irrespective of their racial, religious
nd cultural background. Some 250 students are given these
bursary awards annually. IMA's core activity now includes
running a Child Care Centre under the brand name of Little
Dolphins Playskool. This is in addition to its other activities
which include the fore- entioned annual education bursary award,
annual National Day celebrations, cross- ultural dialogues, and
moral education.
